Finding Your ‘THIS IS IT’ Moments!

Being Aware of ‘THIS IS IT!” Moments will Manifest a Life of Happiness & Dream Creations!

We are in the midst of the holiday season and it can be difficult to stop and just breathe. Our days are filled with rushing around, making preparations, shopping, attending events, all with a very full schedule that seems to continually fill up with more and more activities.
This season my husband and I were invited to a December wedding in Canmore. A beautiful ceremony in the mountains that we were honored to be present along with our friends. Who wouldn’t love to go to a winter wedding in the mountains? It was magical.
When the day came it was very cold as it usually is in December in the mountains; however it was an especially cold day and evening reaching down to -30 celsius.
Of course it had been a busy week getting things prepared to attend this wedding, along with other festive activities, and both of us were fighting off that seasonal flu bug that had been going around. We were tired, as so many are at this time of year. But we made it and were happy to be there.
After the ceremony, the family went off for pictures and we went off to have supper at a local restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant we were surprised to find it was completely empty. We had the dining room to ourselves and were seated in front of the fireplace. The waitress thought the cold was keeping people tucked away in their own homes and chalets. This was probably so, as it was extremely cold even for the locals. We ordered some drinks and our meals and while we waited I gazed out the windows that surrounded us to the amazing scenery of the Rocky Mountains. Suddenly I became fully present in this moment and felt the energy surge through me. I looked at my husband and excitedly exclaimed, “This is it! This is it!”
Startled he looked at me and said, “What? What are you talking about?”
“This is it! These are the moments! These are THE moments!”
He smiled, slowly grasping where my thoughts were headed.
I continued, “These are the moments! Look around! Look at where we are! Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains on a winter day, in front of a warm fire in a lovely rustic restaurant, a glass of wine in front of me, with my husband who I have loved since I was a young teenager, and a delicious meal on its way! These are the moments that make life so perfect! Oh my gosh! I have dreamed of this! If this is the best that it gets, I am forever grateful!”
We all love beautiful spaces and places and this was one of exceptional beauty.
Many years ago, when we were first married, I used to dream about a romantic winter weekend getaway in the mountains. Of course then we lived on the other side of this country and a weekend getaway would have cost us thousands of dollars. I had never seen the mountains and as a young married couple, this remained in my dreams.
Thirty-four years later, somehow here we were!
Clarity is a beautiful thing and brings you instantly to the present. It was at this moment that I realized what had transpired from those dreams without any effort or planning. It had just transpired on its own, in its own timing.
I share this story with you, certainly not to boast, instead my hope is to inspire you in two ways:
 One is that to reinforce for you that we are the creator of what manifests in our lives,
 And the other is to be aware of those moments and open your heart to them, thereby creating more and more of these experiences.
The more we are aware of the gifts in our life, the more the Universe responds and delivers even more. I know there are many more moments to come in my life and I’m sure there will be bigger and better, because I have seen it in my mind. When we are fully aware and present in those moments at the point of manifestation, expanding our hearts with gratitude, we open the flow for more of our dreams to manifest in our lives.
The holiday season is incredibly busy for everyone. We work full days, rush around on our evenings and weekends getting ready for all the gatherings of family and friends, with barely enough energy left over to enjoy these events. And yet it is filled with these potential moments if we become fully aware of them. You to be ready for them!
Taking time to be playful and creative helps relieve the stress and opens you to the flow. Slow down, breathe, play games, color, decorate, bake, read, ski, do whatever you do that makes you happy. And practice being fully present in the moments with your loved ones. Put away the phone and look them in the eye. Be fully present for them. And when you do, you will find you are fully present for you too.
I write these words knowing I have much work to do around this. My mind continually pulls my thoughts here and there, planning and making lists. But this peaceful presence is where I want to be, this is what I strive for. These are the moments I want to experience in life because isn’t this what it means to live a life of happiness as opposed to a happy life?
These are the moments that make our life rich and full. These are the memories we savor when we look back on our life; gathering with family and friends, good food and conversation, bonding us together.
Connect to your creative, playful energy to open your heart and just enjoy the moments. Recognize the ‘this is it!’ moments in your life; the ones that fill your heart.
Happy holidays everyone and wishing you a new year filled with your own creative energy!

Honoring First Nations, Metis and Inuit People

Honoring FNMI People - canvas art print by Janice Gallant. Available at

The Story Behind the Painting

In 2014 the FNMI students of École Deer Meadow School in Olds were asked what they thought should appear on a painting that represented their culture. They listed the buffalo, eagle, teepee, Métis symbol and cart, wolf, inuksuk, whale and bear. They also thought that it should be in the shape of the medicine wheel. Then I was asked to create this in a painting.

This shape created a bit of a challenge, as it is not possible to find a circle canvas. However, nothing is impossible and my husband created a circle frame and stretched the canvas over it for me to begin the painting. I then began the design in the form of the medicine wheel. I divided it into the four directions; north, east, south and west. Each direction represents the stages of life, seasons, and cycles of the day.

East: new beginnings, birth, spring and the beginning of the day
South: mid life, summer and mid day
West: older years of life, season of autumn and evening
North: our end of life years, winter and the night

In considering the student’s requested images, I placed them within their natural environment along with care and thought of the spirit each animal represents, and it all fit perfectly into our four directions.

I have found it so interesting how this came full circle in my life, just like the teachings of the medicine wheel. Many years ago, about 24 years ago, when I lived back in Ontario, I was invited to join in a circle of learning from an elder in the Mideiwin society. I was able to participate as a Moon Star Lodge member and I learned a great deal about the First Nations & Metis spiritual practices from the shamanic perspective. I have much gratitude to my teacher of those years, Kathryn Gorman-Lovelady, a Metis elder and Shaman from the Anishnabe origin. I experienced beautiful growth and learning during those sacred circle moments. So when I speak about this painting, it is close to my heart and I have also pulled from my knowledge of what I learned during those years.

The original 48” circle acrylic painting hangs in the entrance of École Deer Meadow School welcoming all our FNMI students. I am happy to share these canvas prints with all schools and public buildings showing our respect and appreciation for the Indigenous Peoples of Canada, and their contribution to our country.

Each print is hand signed by me, the artist, and is numbered as one of a limited edition of 175 prints.

It has truly been an honor to be part of this process from the very beginning and I am blessed to be watching this artwork grow and expand into many areas, observing the wonderful awareness and conversations it is bringing forth. Many thanks to our school and all the FNMI students.

If you would like to purchase one of these canvas prints they are available in two sizes: 24" for $295 and 36" for $440.

It’s All About the Rich Undertones

Rich undertones colors & life blog by Janice Gallant

The Rich Undertones Makes a Great Painting (& Life)

I'm learning to use undertones more effectively in my paintings. To lay the colors down, using temperature to capture the light, the cool shadows, and the warmth of the sun's glow. These layers become completely hidden eventually, with time and patience as I lay over them vibrant colors that will dance the viewer's eye around the canvas. Nevertheless these under-layers and tones are the foundation of the painting, creating a richness and depth to the colors that could not happen without them.

While reflecting I became aware of the connection to my life. The past experiences that make up the layers of our own lives become the undertones to our present day. It really is all about the undertones and layers!

As we grow through life, every experience and interaction we have becomes another layer of color adding to the beauty of who we are now. We hold all the colorful melodies beneath our surface and they can all add richness, grace and sparkle to the one we call 'me.'

Our childhood, family, friends, job experiences and life experiences are the undertones of the tapestry of our own life, woven together in a way we could not have orchestrated on our own. And they continue to add richness to our lives every day. How many times have you looked back on life events and realized the significance of these experiences in the development of where you are now? At the time you may have questioned why, but in time you see how everything has come together to add growth and depth to who you are now.

Too often I find my mind consumed with the surface events of life, instead of feeling that underlying heartbeat that waits patiently for me to return. A candle burning, a quiet cup of coffee, a text from a loved one, a home cooked meal - all woven into the different fibers of my life, filling every nook and cranny. This is the place I want to dwell in. This is the place I want to create with intention from, feeling the gratitude of my life story and the growth it has given me.

It is not the final painting (creation) that gives so much pleasure to the creator as much as the layering and playing of color that happens beneath the surface, day to day. And now I find that each stroke of paint on the canvas placed intentionally adds beauty to my life. Each layer appreciated and loved brings fullness and expansion to this beauty.

These layers add richness to our lives and make this life worth living. All the little pieces around me make up the life of my dreams. And as I move through my life day to day, I see more clearly the holy fingerprints left in my past, giving me glimmers of the divine Creative Energy presence running through me. And I continue to create on my canvas of life!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Letting Go of Old Energy (& Socks)

Letting Go of Old Energy

Today I woke up realizing I needed to say goodbye to my favorite pair of socks. It’s not that anything was wrong with them in the proper order of things. They were both facing the right direction, both still warm, cozy and the perfect color. But there was a stagnant smell to them, not sweaty, just old. And it wasn’t coming out in the wash. So, I made the decision – it was time for them to go. I thanked them for their comfort and warmth, but we needed to part ways.
Letting go of old, comfy stuff can be hard. I know it is for me. I think it comes from years of being stuck in the survival energy and becoming a master of improvising in my life with whatever I have laying around. This can be old ancestral energy coming down from our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. They survived through wars and the Depression, Dirty Thirty’s and so forth. That survival energy is very sticky – and slow. We have lulls in our life where we may slip back and get a little stuck in that old ancestral pattern that holds fear at its core.
It takes a conscious shift in our minds to move away from it. And once you make that intention magic begins. This morning I made that intention and I could feel that fire flare up inside me. It comes after a few weeks of a slow burn. It feels so good and washes through me, dissolving the slow stagnant sludge that has been lingering in my body and mind, clouding my thinking. Sometimes you just need to ride this out, trusting and knowing the fire will flare up again and with it comes clearer vision and inspiration. I think of my kids and I can see that fire in them too. We all have it. When things get sluggish and life begins to crawl we have that effervescent light that glows with our highest aspirations and it can bring us back to our deepest moments of awareness and clarity, guiding us to the next step.
This comes at a good time today, as we are now moving into the Fall Equinox and setting intentions is pivotal to our creations. My intention is to move out of old patterns of energy with grace, and allow the new adventures to more hidden jewels (and socks) to unfold with renewed inspirations. I am excited to begin new creations in my life in all forms and to allow the currents of my old creations to drive me forward living a life of magic and marvel.
And so let’s all say goodbye to old socks, appreciating the comfort and security they have given, but open up to new adventures with courage. Trust that the world is full of many more new socks, softer and more colorful than the old ones, for you to find.
All we have to do is be open to the flow and follow the signs to the next new ‘sock store’ full of new creative adventures.
Happy Fall Equinox Friends!

Creating for Me, Not an Audience

Creative Inspiration by Janice Gallant

Creating Just for Yourself, Not An Audience

Some days I have so much creative energy flowing through me! I want to paint, I want to draw, I want to write, I want to blog...all at the same time! And sometimes I jump from one to the other, not really accomplishing any of them completely. I've learned how to keep the creative energy flowing and what to do when it slows down to a trickle, but I'm still learning how to manage this wonderful waterfall of energy when it comes. I'm learning to focus this energy and direct it carefully, with my heart.

Finishing projects or meeting deadlines can be a great goal and motivator. But I'm a slow creator and I really wish I could create faster. A painting a day would be wonderful as I have so many different ideas flowing through me. And maybe it will come someday but right now I'm the last to cross the finish line. Well-meaning creative friends tell me I need to paint faster, use bigger brushes (I tend to paint with a very small detail brush), or pull an all-nighter, to finish it up. And there is some good juice in that. And I love their suggestions, as we are always helping each other improve. Having deadlines is a good thing or my creative soul can get lost and flounder in the creative process (it so nice to be in there). After all it is already finished in my mind. Sometimes I need a deadline to kick my energy up a level and get going. But I can't let it stress me out or direct my creations.

So I have to often remind myself, it's okay to be a slow producer, the joy is in there just creating. And I know myself well enough that if I am pulling an all-nighter I'm not going to enjoy it. I love my bed and I love sleeping. My best time for creating is in the morning. For some of my friends, their best time to create is in the middle of the night when the family is sleeping. But I would rather go to bed early and take advantage of an early morning. It's good to know what time of day your creative energy soars in.

It is about knowing yourself as a creator, not comparing with anyone else. I have a friend that sits down to paint and creates the most brilliant paintings in 1-2 nights that would take me months to finish. Does this mean he is a better artist than me? I admit he has his technique down pretty good. But to compare my paintings to his is like comparing apples to oranges as they say. It is not so much the finished product but the feeling we get while painting, and we need to follow that feeling! That is why we create! Creating, whether it is a painting, drawing, music, writing, a garden, a dance or your entire life is for you first. And if others find joy in your finished creations, well great. But it really is none of your business. Don't get caught up in creating what others want, or what might sell - just create for the joy of the moment of creating.

So if my heart tells me to write this morning instead of finishing that painting for the next looming art show, I remind myself that I paint for me - not an audience and I proceed to immerse myself in words for today - like this blog. Tomorrow if my heart says to paint, then I will paint, and usually, (not always, but usually), that painting flows together much more beautifully and in time for that art show.

Happy Creating Friends,
P.S. - I always begin my day with a meditation to help me connect to my creative energy. Below is a link to get my meditation and process that I have been using for many years.

Inspiration from Nature’s Creations

Inspiration from Nature’s Creations

If you ever get the opportunity to stand at the base of a mountain please take it! I highly recommend that everyone do this at least once in their life as it reminds us all where our place in this world really is. Recently as we drove through Roger's Pass into B.C. I was in awe-inspiration looking at the immensity of the landscape. I have been through this pass several times but every time, undoubtedly, I am humbled. I am reminded that I am such a tiny piece to this amazing tapestry of life.

We humans have certainly accomplished such unbelievable feats - like actually building the beautiful highway through the Rocky Mountains! I am in wonder of the work of so many hands, and lives, it took to accomplish the privilege of me being able to easily drive through these passes. It truly is one of the wonders of the world in my eyes. There is no doubt that we are capable of harnessing great creativity, power and intelligence to carry through with anything we want when we put our minds together and set our intentions.

However, we can not forget our place in this world. This means forever holding our respect for our planet and the beauty it holds for us. The mountains are truly magnificent, and the trees!

Oh, the trees! There are no words for the trees. Imagine our world without trees - but we can't as we would not be here without them. They are our life lines for our physical existence. They are the power towers holding space for all of us, so peacefully standing in formidable presence, always giving. And there are so many more of them than there are of us, thankfully!

And so, standing at the base of a mountain looking out at the staggering land of trees as they layer themselves up the sides of these sentinels, brings a feeling of humbling reverence we all need once in a while. And a reminder that the greatest creation is our beautiful earth and this always inspires me to create!

From Self Centered to Inspiration

Communing with my Creative Energy

The word self-centered has such a negative connotation to it. We have been taught to be giving and generous, to think of others before ourselves. Society has made us feel if we spend to much time on ourselves we are being selfish.

And yet read it again - SELF Centered!

Is it not important for us to be centered in our self to create with intention and inspiration. And how can we give sincerely to anyone or anything if we aren't fulfilled ourselves?

So what does being self centered really mean and what does it have to do with inspiration and inspired action? And what does it look like?

This kind of self-centered means healthy self-care. It means making sure you are feeling good every day - physically, emotionally and spiritually. You need to do whatever it is that is going to give you this balance. This is your life!

For me this means I need to make sure I build in time every day for my meditation. I also need to be creative on a regular basis. For me this means writing, painting and drawing. It also means I have to keep up with my exercise routine. I have to take time to go for a run about 2-3 times a week, or else my brain gets sluggish. Maybe I have a slow blood flow, I don't know, but what I do know is aerobic activity is what works for me. And especially after the age of 45, I noticed how quickly my body responded to the lack of exercise! I'm sure I am not alone here. But... if I am short on time, I choose my meditation first.

No one knows better how important it is to make your own self-care a priority, than someone who has been diagnosed with a life-altering or life-threatening illness. Don't wait for that - take care of you now!

What replenishes you? What makes your heart say, "Yes! This feels so good! I need more of this in my life!"

Now be brave! It takes a lot of courage to make yourself the priority in your life. You need to put yourself first, ahead of your kids, spouse, pets, extended family and your work. You need to ignore what others say about you. And you need to learn how to say NO to others. (Or put them off, until it works with your schedule - take control!) You need to mentally shut everything else off and take the time for you.

Learning to meditate will be a skill you will never regret. And taking 15 minutes every day to practice this will begin your journey of replenishing your soul. (At the end I will attach a link to get my meditation for free. I have been using it for about 25 years and it is very powerful for accomplishing the connection to your Creative Energy.)

Be completely and utterly selfish in these moments - don't let anyone intrude! Fill yourself up for your day!

You sleep to replenish your physical body so why would we not want to replenish our inner self, soothe our emotions and connect to your soul?

You will find on the days you complete your meditation, you will have so much more to give to everyone and everything else. You will feel calmer AND you will be opening the gates for inspiration! Yay!

More and more creative ideas will come to you, during meditations and/or throughout the day when you least expect it. You have opened the gates to more...more answers to problems, new ideas and new creations.

So tomorrow begin with you and make time to commune with your Creative Energy!

If you would like the free meditation just click the link below and I will send it out to you.

And watch for the painting that came from this drawing - I will post it soon!
